About 189 Development, LLC

Based in Providence, 189 Development focuses on building and supporting not-for-profit organizations in the following areas:

1. Empowering Women and Gender Expansive People

2. Parks and Flowers

3. The Literary Arts and Libraries

4. (More) Livable Cities

Within these areas, we provide support for selected not-for-profit projects related to commercial real estate, strategic planning, the creation of joy and community building. We support existing organizations and programs as well as occasionally assist with launching new ones. Our support include grants, connections and assistance from our network of expert advisors. Our work is 95% focused on Rhode Island. 

We are a member of the Grantmakers Council of Rhode Island.  Our grant process is streamlined and by invitation only. We generally give under the condition of anonymity. 

189 Development is underwritten by a contribution from a private, Rhode Island-based trust.
